Château Fonroque, Grand Cru Classé

The Fonroque winery extends over 17.60 hectares of vineyards a few hundred metres north-west of the town of Saint-Emilion. It is spread over a limestone plateau and a west-facing hillside. Château Fonroque was the very first Grand Cru Classé to be certified biodynamic.

Château Fonroque was acquired in 1931 by Adèle and Jean Moueix. Alain ... Moueix, their great-grandson, inherited it from his father and has been running the estate since 2001.
He has developed a viticulture that respects the environment, leading to organic farming certification in 2006 and biodynamic certification in 2008.

In 2017, the Guillard family bought the estate. Aware of the importance of continuing this essential work, the new owners have asked Alain Moueix to play an active advisory role in the management of the estate.
Fonroque offers a fine mosaic of the three main types of soil in Saint-Emilion.

To allow this terroir to come to the fore during the blending process, we have built a new winery. It's made up of smaller concrete vats, which means we can bring a great deal of subtlety to the final blend. see more
