La Grande Cave de Vougeot

Un moment agréable avec Pierre-Yves qui a su nous parler du travail dans les vignes, des différentes appellations des vins de Bourgogne et des effets du climat et de ses changements, sans oublier la dégustation avec commentaires pour nous faire mieux saisir leurs particularités.

Nous avons passé un très bon moment. La visite guidée est riche. Précieux moment. Je recommande vivement.

Mistook this for another venue and before the visit was skeptical of what I would experience. Our guide took us through the grape growing and winemaking processes, highlighting the challenges both historic and current. Surprise to me, they have an actual, formerly working cave below the building, and you get a tour of that as well, including seeing stacks of unlabeled, mystery-content bottles from the previous century. Though you don't get to sample those, you do get a thorough explanation of and tasting of a raft of wines from cremant to white to red. The explanation of the terroirs, climats, and annual variations convinced me that though I can enjoy vins de Bourgogne, I'll never be able to master knowing them. C'est la vie...and that's just fine. It's a private company, and mainly set up to sell you wine, but worth a visit. I'm unsure whether the tasting fee is refunded if you purchase some number of bottles because I arrived by bike and my pannier was full.
