Last day in Reims I simply couldn’t resist—one more tasting. I chose the famed Lanson Champagne House and upgraded to their premium tour. From the very start, there was a sense that this was a place with a grand past—imposing, elegant, even a little dusty. Walking in, I imagined how spectacular it must have felt 15–20 years ago. Today, though everything is polished and excellent, you can still feel the weight of history.The tour began a bit awkwardly: I had to wait 10 minutes for my guide. But once she arrived, the whole experience exploded in richness. My personal guide, Matilda, was deeply knowledgeable and professional. We moved through: a history introduction,an explanation of the Champagne region and Lanson’s grape suppliers, walk through the vineyards themselves.Seeing real Champagne vineyards was thrilling—and eye-opening. Did you know that by law the vines in the Champagne region are grown up to just about 1.2 meters in height? Also, Lanson plants beehives beside the vines to help pollination, and roses at the ends of rows as early warning systems: when the roses start showing disease, it signals the vines might too. A brilliant, old-school biological indicator.We were lucky enough to snap photos and film a bit with the cellar master, Hervé Dantan. Then into the winery: vats, old barrels, the works. Matilda’s mastery was again clear—she knew exactly what she was talking about. Next: the cellars. Lanson’s cellars are not the old chalk-mine pits. Instead of cavernous tunnels, these are straight, modern, linear spaces—not quite “cray” (cray meaning caves), but they have a dignified patina, even if the structure is more recent (’70s era). The entire place is clean, orderly, unpretentious.At the end, we sat down to a tasting of three cuvées. My favorite was the Blanc de Blancs. And here’s the fun part: once Matilda knew I’m a winemaker, she let me open one of the bottles myself—something she said she seldom allows. Feeling the pressure of the bubbles, twisting the bottle in my hand, I think I impressed even her.Overall: a fascinating journey into the soul of Lanson. You leave appreciating both the elegance and the gentle wear of time.

Visite des caves Lanson ce samedi avec une jeune femme de la maison comme hôte et guide. visite agréable et professionnelle, un grand bravo à elle fraichement nommée au sein de cette maison. la dégustation était parfaite, nous avons acheté pas mal de flacons ensuite. Félicitations à la maison Lanson et votre site pour sa fluidité et son efficacité.

visite vraiment interessante et tres complete

Nous étions 2 quebequois mêlé à un groupe qui ce connaissait tous, donc pas toujours évident, mais somme toutes, tout était parfait. Notre guide avait sur le bout de ses doigts tout son savoir. Petite visite de vignes wow! Et une super dégustation! Le prix payé en vaut la peine a 100% Une superbe expérience dans le temps aussi dans ces caves remplis d’histoire et d’amour

A very enjoyable tour with lots of interesting information made all the more special by Odran’s commentary. He was a wonderful host with a passion for champagne and Lanson that was a pleasure to experience.

Visite de la cave aujourd’hui avec une guide qui aime ce qu’elle fait et ça se ressent ! Tour très interessant et la dégustation des champagnes est superbe. Nous recommandons :)
