Bordeaux · The best Grands Crus Classés châteaux to visit

The Grands Crus Classés of Bordeaux have made this wine-growing region famous for centuries. Indeed, in 1855, a classification of the red wines of the Médoc and the white wines of Sauternes was established on the occasion of the Paris Universal Exhibition. Listed in several levels (from Premiers Crus to Cinquièmes Crus), these châteaux offer wines from exceptional terroirs with excellent ageing potential.

Alongside this 1855 classification, there are also Grands Crus Classés in Saint Emilion, based on a classification revised every 10 years and introduced in 1955. The main criteria for this classification are the reputation of the châteaux and the quality of the terroirs and wines.

Finally, in 1953, the Graves classification distinguished 16 châteaux for the quality of their white and red wines.
